The study aimed at designing a multimedia database for Kyambogo University (KYU) Library to support the storage and retrieval of the multimedia information resources in the library. The objectives of the study were to: examine the current system of managing multimedia information resources at KYU Library, identify the different multimedia information resources kept in KYU Library, identify the challenges in managing the multimedia information resources at KYU Library and design a multimedia database for information resources at KYU Library. The study used a case study research design while adopting a qualitative research approach in presenting the data. The sample size comprised of 15 library staff were expected to participate in the study at KYU Library. Purposive sampling method was used to select the respondents and a total of 13 library staff participated in the study. The data collection methods used were; interviews and observation methods. The researcher used interview guides, and the observation guides in data collection necessary in designing a multimedia database for KYU Library. The study revealed that all the respondents agreed that the manual database system is the one used in Kyambogo University library to manage multimedia resources. The study also revealed that the different types of the multimedia information resources which include; text, images, graphic Objects, audio, video, animation sequences, composite multimedia among others. The challenges in the current database which include; lack of security, inconsistency, repetition of work, too much paper work and slow retrieval of data. The study concluded that there is need to design a multimedia database for Kyambogo University Library to improve on the storage and retrieval of multimedia information resources in the library. The study recommended that the management of Kyambogo University Library to adopt the proposed multimedia database to support the storage and retrieval of information resources at Kyambogo University Library. The other recommendations were; training of the library staff and library users on how to use the system, seek support from other University libraries and improving on the security of the information resources in the library.
